All SSC programs include Pre-Vocational Training components, which equip young adults with essential life and work skills to foster independence and successful transitions into a variety of settings. Participants engage in hands-on activities that develop practical skills, social-emotional competence, and workplace readiness. The training focuses on building foundational skills in areas such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, time managment and self- advocacy. Through individualized support and real-world experience, participants gain confidence, explore their vocational interests, and develop the essential skills necessary to thrive in both personal and professional environments.

Culinary Arts

This track focuses on crop production & orchard care. participants in this track are responsible for the high-volume harvests that supply our farm stand and supplies the Carmelitos CSA. 
Vocational Hard Skills: Soil Health Management, regenerative farming practices, irrigation systems, seasonal crop rotation, integrated pest management, and packing techniques.

The Nursery track supplies the farm with all the plant starters and nursery care for our farm and for retail. It focuses on the technical precision required to grow plants from seed to sale, specializing in both edible crops, pollinators & CA native plants. 
Vocational Hard Skills: Seed sowing, plant propagation, greenhouse climate control, transplanting, plant identification, and nursery retail.

This track bridges the gap between the field and the table. Participants learn professional kitchen standards while transforming "surplus" farm produce into healthy balanced meals for our program lunch service and value-added products that reduce food waste.
Vocational Hard Skills: Knife saftey, Food Handlers Certification, recipe scaling, commercial dehydrating/preserving, and high volume meal prep.

Growing Futures: 

Cultivating Young Chefs

Farm to table entrepreneur program for youth aged 16-24. Get your hands dirty learning to grow delicious food and discover how to turn your culinary creations into a real business. 
This program includes the basics of organic gardening, composting, harvesting techniques, food preservation, pickling, and cooking lessons from several successful local chefs! 
During our summer 2025 camp we collaborated with Eat Baryo, Lola's Mexican Cuisine, Battaambong BBQ, Pasta Mark, and Dreamy Vegan.

Summer Camp: 

Fun on the farm

Children ages 8-12 will get to learn and grow on the farm through hands-on learning activities. Farming, cooking, art-making and moving and grooving. Your little one will walk away with knowledge garden essentials like seed saving and sowing, soil health, compost and garden planning.
