ABOUT US

CORE VALUES: Love, Respect, Stewardship, Diversity and Empowerment

MISSION: Sowing Seeds of Change has a mission to empower our participants to discover and and actively engage in a local food system that encourages healthy living, nurtures the environment, and grows a sustainable community through vocational training, youth entrepreneurship, and leadership opportunities.

Our primary objectives and vision are to employ transition-age people with disabilities and foster youth (ages 18-22) through a job-readiness program, grow organic produce, and host educational workshops for our neighboring community.

Our Urban Farm centers on offering Agricultural Education and Vocational Training to young adults with disabilities and transition age foster youth while engaging our local community as key stakeholders in the growth and wellbeing of our participants.

Our Sustainable Agriculture Program provides vocational training in the concepts and practices of organic gardening and small scale farming that include crop production; organic flower farming; greenhouse care and nursery operation.

Through these programs, we aim to create a healthier, more equitable food system in Long Beach and beyond by providing affordable access to fresh organic produce, facilitating youth leadership and entrepreneurialism in health and nutrition education, and connecting urban communities to workshops and classes, farm stands, markets that promotes sustainable agriculture.

Sustainable Agriculture

Through this vocational program, participants are provided with training in the concepts and practices of organic gardening and small-scale farming using regenerative techniques. Participants will have the opportunity to select one of the three fields of study, (crops, flowers, nursery), where they will enter the next level of learning and expertise in their field of study. In addition to the hands-on experience, the Sustainable Agriculture program will also provide job readiness workshops and entrepreneurial training to prepare graduates for a competitive market.

Workshops and Classes

We offer a variety of agricultural training classes and workshops for our community. We welcome participants of all ages and skill levels. Our classes are focused on gaining hands on practical gardening and food growing skills that our participants can implement once at home.  We offer a variety of fun workshops and learning experiences, such as shrub making, flower arrangement, fermenting, and much more. Check back for updates on class and course listings.
